RARE ANTIQUE PAIRPOINT LAMP
1897 - 1900
$650.00
This item is a RARE ANTIQUE PAIRPOINT LAMP with SPIDER and PYRAMID SHADE with 2 GLASS PANELS (see pics). This antique Pairpoint lamp likely dates to somewhere between 1897 and 1900. The lamp and shade are marked PAIRPOINT MFG CO. which was changed to The Pairpoint Corporation in 1900. The socket is made by HUBBELL but it is unknown if it's the original or not. HUBBELL pull chain sockets patent date to 1896. Lamp stands 17 inches tall. The lamp body looks to be cast from white metal which was been finished with a bronze like surface coating (lamp, shade and spider are all nonmagnetic). Shade frame and spider are brass.
The floral and butterfly glass panels have a vertical ribbed texture on the outside. It's believed that the ribbing is to defuse the light more evenly through the panels. The panels are hand/reverse painted on wavy (uneven) smooth glass surfaces (not ordinary paint - Pairpoint used enamel that was kiln-fired onto the glass).
The lamp is model number B3074.
The shade number is 7613.
The shade looks to be designed for the lamps spider and fits the spider properly.
PLEASE NOTE: Only two glass panels are intact. Buyer will have to replace the other two panels with modern stained-glass panels.
Condition: What is shown is what you will receive. The lamp has been rewired with a modern period looking cloth covered cord (not a polarized plug). Pull chain socket is working properly (has a crisp on/off sound). The glass panels are in great condition with just very minor edge chips (which are hidden by the metal framework of the shade). Please note that the lower channel ends that the glass slides into have some separations on all for corners (channels still hold the glass firmly). All of the upper glass fold-over tabs are still intact.
NOTE: This great old lamp will ship in two boxes. The glass panels will ship removed from the shade and sandwiched between thick protective foam and then boxed with the shade frame. Great care will be taken in the packaging of all pieces. Heavy duty cardboard boxes will be used.
Shipping is included in the purchase price!
